Walk with Walgreens

Big Papa

Papa Joe is a man on a mission. A lifelong entrepreneur, Papa Joe was featured in a music video two years ago. What should have been his “made it” moment turned out to be a wake up call. Papa Joe couldn’t believe how big he had become.

From that day forward, Papa Joe’s dedicated his life to walking. Over the past two years, he’s lost over 200 pounds with just his feet. No diet, no gym, no surgery—just walking. Papa Joe still walks 3-5 miles every day and is an inspiration around L.A.

All it took for Papa Joe was a wake up moment and a drive to just do it. Have you had a similar wake up moment? How has walking changed your life?

  • I am 54, diabetic and have way too many excuses for NOT walking! I just signed up with a college student doing her thesis on Diabetes and the effects of exercise on it.  I have to walk 3-5 times a week for 30-45 minutes for 6 weeks. I hope that makes it a habit for me.  I I lose weight...fine (I need to!) but I need to get moving.  Time isnt standing still and I love life and want to live a whole bunch more of it!! Thanks, Papa Joe!

  • Papa Joe, you are an inspiration!  I have MS and sometimes I like to let take over, but I'm ready to fight now.  Thanks for the story it helped.  I walked 1.6 miles today and my journey will continue from this day forward.  Again, thanks!  :-)

  • I have had fibromyalgia for 18 years and I am pledging now to walk at least 3-4 times a week for 30-40 minutes.  It does not sound like a lot, and hopefully I can build it up, but this is my starting point.  Good job, Papa Joe!
